I made 34000$ by publishing and selling my first E-book in just 7 months.
This gave me the confidence to start publishing other books and improving my system that makes money by itself.
Gone are the days when you had to look for publishers and what not to publish and market your book.
Now, you can completely control each and every aspect of writing, publishing and marketing your book.
One thing I would like to point is that making 6 Figures from a book is not a practical idea, as the book itself is a short-ticket product and generally sells in the range of 2 to 10 dollars.
But using the system, you can use your published books to use as a marketing channel and create a brand.
Once you have everything in place, you can easily make over 6 figures a month.
Even if you are just looking to make a few hundred extra bucks each month, Self Publishing is the way to go.
Today, we will see how you can create and sell your first E-book from start to finish.
5 Phases of Creating and Selling your own E-book
If you want to differentiate yourself from the competition and make your first book successful, then you need to follow a proper system.
If you want to create something of value, then you need to work for it.
Publishing your own E-book is not a get rich quick scheme.
Thousands of books are being published online that are not read by anybody.
If you don’t want your hard work to go waste, then it becomes really important to do it in the right manner.
The 5 Phases of Creating and Selling your own Ebook are:
Let’s see which are the 5 phases of creating and selling your book online.
Planning is all about beginning by keeping the end in mind.
This is all about deciding the outcome of your book.
Is your book going to entertain? Or inform? Educate? Or shift their perspective about something?
You need to decide the outcome beforehand so that even you don’t get lost about the direction while creating your book.
As the books with no outcome get no reviews or sales.
If you want your book to be successful than you need to take your reader on a journey and give them something of value.
It does not mean you have to write about Rock-Science or Meta-Physics.
Your book could be about anything like how to train your dog, or how to lose weight or how to maintain a garden or even a book about How to write an Ebook. The possibilities are endless.
You just need to think about making your book worthwhile for your reader so that they can give good reviews which will further drive sales for your book.
You also need to be mindful of some common mistakes that newbies often make.
The other aspect of planning is creating a simple road-map or blueprint and taking care of small details like images and pictures that you would like to use.
Good Research can tell you beforehand whether your book is going to be sold or not.
The primary reason for doing research is to gauge the market beforehand.
The first thing that you need to do is decide on the niche or the category in which your book is going to sell.
Then you can see which are the books in that category that are already selling well.
You can even buy these books to figure the gap in content and the opportunity for you to differentiate from your competitors.
The next thing that you need to do is find people who could be interested in the book you are going to sell.
And then you just need to ask whether they would be willing to buy the book that you are creating?
And at what are their pain points that you could address in your book.
You can also use Answer the Public to understand what are different questions that people are looking for related to your book category.
If you take the effort of doing this much, I’m pretty sure that you would be able to make your book profitable.
This is the most fun part.
Now you need to create your own E-book in a way that it can easily be uploaded on the platforms on which you are going to sell.
If you are creating a small ebook then you can use Canva to create and design your Ebook.
Once your book design is ready as per your wish, download it as a PDF and if the book size is more than 30 pages, you can use small PDf to stitch together different PDF’s that you have.
I like to use Google Docs for creating and editing my book as it’s super-easy to use and I don’t have to worry about keeping a backup, as it’s always available on the cloud.
Firth thing you need to do is create your Index so that you have a clear direction of how to write your Ebook.
You can also use Grammarly Plugin to check spelling and grammatical mistakes.
You can check out this guide to see some other writing tools to help you on your journey.
Once your first draft is ready, you can show it to your friends to have a second look.
You can also find someone of Upwork, freelancer or Fiverr to edit your book.
Branding and Formatting
The next step of the creation phase is designing a nice book-cover that is going to drive sales for your book.
A good looking Book Cover can help your book stand out from all the other competitors.
In case you want a professional looking design cover, you can go to 99 Designs, Upwork. Freelancer or Fiverr to find a professional who can do it for you.
For Formatting, you can use a free software like Scribus or if you want a better option you can use Adobe Indesign.
There are many free templates available for Indesign if you know how to use it.
You can also find a freelancer to do it for you, on the sites that I mentioned above.
This is the phase in which you create a system through which people can buy your books easily.
If you own a WordPress Blog then you can use Woo Commerce Plugin to sell your books on your site.
Then you need to sign up for a Paypal Business Account or Stripe to accept payments.
The better way of doing this would be to use Kindle Direct Publishing by Amazon.
You can easily publish your E-book in less than 5 minutes.
You get paid up to 70% royalty for each sale if the book is priced between the sweet pricing range of 2.99 to 9.99 Dollars.
While publishing your book through Kindle Direct Publishing, you need to pay attention to 3 things that are your Title, Category, and Description.
If you don’t want your book to be lost within the ocean of books on Kindle then your Title and Description should clearly define what the book is about.
You have to make it as easy as possible for readers to discover and buy your book.
For this, you have to think of Amazon as a search engine.
The next thing that you need to do is add 2 categories.
Choosing a smaller category can make your book an Amazon bestseller within no time.
This will give more exposure to your book and help you to make more sales.
Test everything in this phase and make sure everything is working smoothly.
This is the main differentiation factor that separates a book that generates 200 dollars in sales and the on that generates well over 10,000 Dollars.
This works best if you already have a blog or an Email List.
Having a ready-made audience can give your book a much-needed initial push.
Even if you don’t have a blog or an Email list, keep following as you can use some creative ways to find an audience for your book.
Here’s a general checklist that you can follow:
- Add a bonuses page with Email optin.
- Plan your launch timeline & share with your list.
- You can use Facebook groups, Forums and other such places to broadcast your book launch.
- You can also initially give the book for free to your subscribers, to get good reviews before launch.
Having a proper strategy for marketing and distributing your book can make it a best-seller.
If you want to earn in 6 figures then you need to use books as just another form of a marketing channel for your bigger brand.
As the book is a smaller priced product, if you are able to win the trust of your reader they are more likely to purchase more things from you in future.
You can use your blog to further provide value to your readers and plan digital products for them.
Using the above methods in conjunction can help you make six figures each month.
But none of this is going to be possible without your own hard work and commitment.
This is the essence of self-publishing your own book and generating recurring income for a lifetime.
I suggest you to divide the above process into small steps so that you can track your progress.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither your book will be.
It’s important to take it easy and have patience till the end.
The real power lies in being able to create an income source for yourself, that’s going to pay your bills and give you the freedom to explore more opportunity.
